DeSean Jackson debuted for the Raiders on Sunday night and coughed up the ball in brutal fashion right here:

You’d think DeSean could just run it in from there, yeah? He instead turns back the other way and loses the ball.

Zach Ertz had a weird play like this a few years ago, where it looked like he had several steps on a defender and was brought down anyway. I argued at the time that he had to kind of lean over and slow up for the ball, which killed his forward momentum. I think that’s what happened here, if we’re giving DeSean the ABSOLUTE benefit of the doubt. He caught the ball running toward the sideline and bobbled it a bit while securing it, so instead he tried to hold up and reestablish himself instead of getting tackled by the linear trailing defender WITH momentum.

But Ertz is super slow, and D Jaccson is a guy who can accelerate pretty quick, so I’m not sure the argument works as well when applied to this case. Regardless, he would have benefited from just going down and keeping the ball with the chunk yardage.
