Mets Get Rid of Acting GM, Who Was Arrested for DWI in August
Remember that really stupid week the Mets had back in August?
A couple of their players gave a “thumbs down” gesture to fans during a game because they didn’t like being booed. Their feelings were hurt. President Sandy Alderson issued a statement calling the behavior unacceptable, which resulted in apologies from Javy Baez and Francisco Lindor. Then, as a cherry on top, acting GM Zack Scott was arrested on drunken driving charges after he was found asleep in his car following a fundraising event at owner Steve Cohen’s house.
Scott is now OUT of a job, via ESPN, citing reports:
Acting general manager Zack Scott will not return to the New York Mets after being placed on administrative leave following an arrest on drunken driving charges in August, according to multiple reports.
Scott’s dismissal is hardly a surprise after New York fell apart in the second half and missed the playoffs for a fifth straight season. President Sandy Alderson assumed GM duties with Scott on paid leave and already oversaw the firing of manager Luis Rojas. The Mets are trying to hire a president of baseball operations for the second straight offseason under owner Steve Cohen.
Scott has a trial date of December 8th. He pleaded not guilty to the DWI charge and three other traffic violations.
Some more details from Lou DiPietro at WFAN:
Scott’s trial date is roughly one year after the Mets hired him as a senior vice president and assistant general manager after 17 years in the Boston Red Sox front office. He was promoted to acting GM in January when Jared Porter was fired amidst sexual misconduct allegations in his past, just 37 days after Porter was hired by the Mets, and oversaw operations until he was placed on administrative leave shortly after his arrest.
Never a dull moment when it’s the New York Mets.
