Eagles fans wanted Nick Sirianni to run the ball earlier this season, and to his credit, he obliged. The Birds are now one of the NFL’s best rushing teams, behind the FOUR-HEADED MONSTER of Jalen Hurts, Miles Sanders, Jordan Howard, and Boston Scott. Even rookie Kenneth Gainwell got in on the action Sunday, with the latter two guys hobbled.

Those same Eagles fans would have loved what Bill Belichick did on Monday Night Football. He ran the ball 46 times and threw it just three times, which amounts to a 94% to 6% run-pass ratio. They only passed the ball on six percent of their plays, and Mac Jones finished 2-3 for 19 yards. He also ran the ball five times for -4 yards. What a game for Mac Jones fantasy owners!

Consider this:

But not even Navy runs the ball 94% of the time. Army doesn’t either. All of the triple-option teams throw at least 5-10 passes per game on average. Just go back to Army hanging 56 on Wake Forest (and still losing). They ran the ball 70 times but still mustered 13 passes.

Thing is, Army and Navy aren’t typically facing 40 mph wind gusts in Buffalo. That’s why last night happened:

“We played kind of the way we felt like we needed to play to win. In the end, we scored enough points,” New England coach Bill Belichick said. (via Mike Reiss at ESPN)

“Just have to give the players a lot of credit for being tough, being disciplined, being resilient and dealing with a really good football team and conditions that were somewhat challenging.”

To be fair, it’s not like the running plan was some genius thing. They scored 14 points. If you take away the 64 yard Damien Harris run, New England only averaged 3.5 yards on their 45 other carries. And Buffalo made mistakes, too. They fumbled at the Patriots’ 29 yard line and missed a field goal while finishing 1-4 in the red zone.

Regardless, the Pats have the AFC’s best record, and these guys probably loved the game:
