Washington Football Team with an Omicron Case

Monday, J.P. Finlay down at NBC Sports Washington reported that the WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM had a couple of COVID cases in their camp. Jonathan Allen was one of them, while the unvaccinated Montez Sweat tries to clear protocol and return for the Birds game.
Additionally, Tom Pelissero is reporting that there’s an Omicron case within the organization:
A Tier 3 staffer with the Washington Football Team tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19, per source. The first known case of that variant in the NFL. Another sign of the evolving nature of the situation, on the same day 36 NFL players went on COVID reserve lists.

Tier 3 staffers are defined by the NFL as “certain operational personnel, in-house media and broadcast personnel, field manager, transportation providers, and individuals who perform essential facility, stadium, or event services but do not require close contact with Tier 1 individuals.” So we’re talking somebody like a team-employed talking head or auxiliary type of person that isn’t mingling with the players. They aren’t allowed around the players at all.
For what it’s worth, the team did announce that Allen was placed on the COVID list, in additional to linebacker David Mayo. Two practice squad players in William Bradley-King and Temarrick Hemingway (no relation to Ernest), were also put on the list.
You may have read elsewhere that 36 players went on the COVID list on Monday, and that’s the highest number since the list was actually created back in 2020. That means it’s we’re in COVID SZN, which absolutely sucks!
