ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano did an insider notebook at ESPN, and the focus is on head coaching vacancies in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. Who will the new hires be? And is Joe Judge returning home to lead the Lansdale Catholic Crusaders to victory?

Included is an excerpt about Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon:

Graziano: One of the hottest names out there is that of Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who I’m told made a very strong impression in his interview with the Texans and is considered by some in that building to be the current front-runner for the job. A head-coach job in this cycle would represent a rapid rise for Gannon, who was the Colts’ defensive backs coach two years ago and is coming off his first season as a coordinator.

But those who have worked with him laud his ability to connect with various types of people, build up the confidence of the players and coaches around him and maintain strong relationships. Judging a coordinator based on the way the team performed on his side of the ball is easy, but the characteristics that make a strong head coach don’t always align with those that define a coach’s specific defensive or offensive schemes. The 39-year-old Gannon is impressing people in ways that make teams look at him as a strong overall leader.

Well listen, it’s great that he’s a leader and communicator, but can he first open the game in something other than Cover 2? Maybe don’t wait until you’re down 14-0 to throw single high safety or press man coverage at the opposing offense. Gimme that juicy 3-3-5 odd stack with Genard Avery and Patrick Johnson early and often. Sub packages, baby baby.

Not sure if you feel the same way, but I’m astonished that Gannon has had multiple interviews and is now considered a front runner for one of those jobs, REPORTEDLY. The best QB the Eagles beat this season was probably an aging Matt Ryan or Teddy Bridgewater, if we’re being honest with ourselves. Imagine beating down Garrett Gilbert and Jake Fromm and then getting head coaching interviews. Gannon is out here on the fast track to a fancy new gig. I want to be on the same track.
