Flyers vs. Islanders Betting Odds, Pick, and Prediction (January 25, 2022)
On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers (13-21-8) will try to avoid setting a new franchise record by snapping their current 12-game winless streak, when they visit the New York Islanders (14-14-6) at UBS Arena. It’s the third of four meetings between the longtime rivals this season. The Islanders won the first two on back-to-back nights last week, defeating the Flyers in New York 4-1 last Monday before defeating the Flyers in a nine-round shootout 4-3 in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The final meeting between the teams this season will be on March 20 in Philadelphia.
Let’s get into our Flyers vs. Islanders betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this January 22, 2022 matchup.

Flyers-Islanders Preview
The Flyers tied a franchise record last night, losing to the Dallas Stars 3-1. It was their 12th consecutive game without a loss, tying the record set by the 1998-99 team, who still made the playoffs. This Flyers team has no such chance.
Losing to the Islanders tonight would set that record for the franchise, and also be tied for the fourth-longest winless streak in the NHL since the elimination of ties following the 2003-04 season.
The biggest problem for the Flyers is they can’t score. In the one game against the Islanders last week they scored a goal on a pass that redirected off two Islanders defensemen. Then, last night, the same thing happened again against Dallas.
In this 12-game skid, they’ve scored two goals or fewer nine times.
It’s bad.
Martin Jones is expected to be in net for the Flyers. He was yanked after allowing four goals in the first period Saturday in Buffalo.
As for the Islanders, they are 7-2-1 in their last 10 and are still committed to getting back into the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. They sit 16 points behind the Boston Bruins for the final spot, but because of how many games they lost due to COVID, they still have five games in hand.
The Islanders will go back to Ilya Sorokin in net tonight. Sorokin has had the Flyers’ number. In seven career games against them, Sorokin is 6-0-1.

Flyers vs. Islanders Odds
Here are the lines for Flyers vs. Islanders at FanDuel Sportsbook:
Spread: Flyers (+1.5, -120), Islanders (-1.5, -104)
Moneyline: Flyers (+220), Islanders (-275)
Over/Under: Over 5.5 (+100), Under 5.5 (-122)
Bets We Like with an Islanders win
New York -0.5 in the first period (+120, BetMGM)
The first period has been the bane of the Flyers’ existence. They have won only one game all season when trailing after the first period (1-13-2). They are also dreadful once they get down 1-0 in a game, which has happened in 10 of the last 12 games (2-19-3 overall). Combine that with the fact that Jones has been a subpar goalie this season and you should bet against the Flyers in the first period for much of the remainder of the season.

Anthony Beauvillier OVER 0.5 goals (+250, FanDuel Sportsbook)

Beauvillier is a Flyers killer. He has scored at least once in three of the last four games against the Flyers. He has nine career goals against the Flyers, more than any other team except the New York Rangers. Considering the Flyers are trotting out two full lines filled with AHL-caliber players, Beauvillier should get some good matchups to take advantage of against Philadelphia.

This is an even-money bet and one that might seem odd considering the Flyers struggle to score on Sorokin, but we think it’s going to get there because the Islanders will do enough scoring. The Islanders scored four goals in each of the two games last week against the Flyers. The Flyers averaged two goals in the two games. If they hit those marks, it’s a win.

Flyers vs. Islanders Prediction
Repeating what we said last time: Look, it’s quite simple. We know the Flyers will end this losing skid at some point, but until they do, we can’t, in good conscience, predict a win.
Prediction: Islanders 4, Flyers 2
