Flyers-Sharks Preview
The Flyers are still in roster hell.
Between injuries and the COVID protocol, the Flyers are down eight players. Two players came off the protocol list today and will play tonight – but they weren’t the two the Flyers were hoping for. Not that Jackson Cates and Nick Seeler can’t be a slight upgrade over Connor Bunnaman and Egor Zamula, but the Flyers are still missing Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny, Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim due to COVID, and Sean Couturier, Derick Brassard, Ryan Ellis and Nate Thompson due to injuries.
As such, finding a way to win against any NHL team right now, is a challenge. The Flyers are trying, but they are so shorthanded that they are often coming up on the wrong end of the scoreboard.
The only players scoring with any regularity for the Flyers right now are Joel Farabee and Cam Atkinson.
As for the Sharks, they aren’t in much better shape. Logan Couture and Lane Pederson are in the COVID protocol, and while that’s less than what’s missing for Philadelphia, the Sharks have a slew of injuries as well, including goalie James Riemer and defenseman Erik Karlsson.
Still, they have a very good line intact in leading scorer Timo Meier, Alexander Barabanov, and maybe the most targeted player in the NHL as the trade deadline approaches, scoring winger Tomas Hertl.
It should be an interesting goaltending matchup as Martin Jones will be in net for the Flyers to play against his old team for the first time, while Sharks backup Adin Hill gets the nod for San Jose.

Bets We Like with a Flyers win
Flyers to win and BOTH teams score 2+ goals in regulation (+340, BetMGM)

Backup goalie vs. Backup goalie. Both teams should score at least two goals in that case. Then it’s just a matter of the Flyers being able to win the game. They should be desperate – having lost four straight they are slip-sliding away from playoff contention, and if they still believe they can get there, they need to win a game. Period. Players are going to have to step up. Defenseman Justin Braun suggested the leadership of the team wasn’t up to snuff either, helping to ensure the team doesn’t panic as soon as it gets behind a goal needs to be a focus. Maybe the Flyers find that element of their game today. The odds are great, so take a shot on this parlay being offered at BetMGM.

CLAIM OFFERPut it this way, all the Sharks really need to do to win is score first. The Flyers are 2-13-2 when allowing the first goal of the game.
But, the Flyers have also lost the first period in three straight games, and considering how shorthanded they are, they are ripe for the pickings again tonight. Not to mention, they are 1-10-2 when trailing after the first period.

Combine that with two backup goalies as we already mentioned and… well… getting to six goals tonight shouldn’t be too difficult, even for two teams missing some key offensive players.

Flyers vs. Sharks Prediction
The initial gut instinct is to bet the Sharks because of the spiral the Flyers are in. But, there are al lot of paths here for the Flyers to sneak out a win against another shorthanded team, albeit not as shorthanded as the Flyers.
That said, it’s also hard to justify picking a team that has confidence issues, leadership issues, goal scoring issues, defensive zone issues and a complete mess of a roster.
The best we can come up with, is they’ll keep it close.
Prediction: Sharks 4, Flyers 3 (SO)
