The votes are in. The crotchety curmudgeons have submitted their Baseball Hall of Fame ballots, and a grand total of one person was inducted.

Here’s how the final ballot played out, courtesy of @Todayin_MLB:

David Ortiz is the only guy to get in this year. Curt Schilling, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens were in their 10th and final year on the ballot and did not make it. Same with Sammy Sosa.

As for our guys, Jimmy Rollins got 9.4% of the vote in year number one, so he remains on the ballot for a second try. You have to hit a 5% threshold in order to remain eligible. Ryan Howard only brought in two percent, so he is removed from future ballots. It’s a bummer, but not necessarily a surprise. J Roll always had the stronger case than Howard. Jonathan Papelbon also fell off the ballot while former Phillies Scott Rolen, Billy Wagner, and Bobby Abreu are still alive.

Rolen was actually up 10.3% this year, and was the biggest gainer across the board. He is trending toward induction based on what we’re seeing with these voting patterns. Wagner’s number jumped slightly and Abreu held steady in that 8-9% range.

We don’t need to get into a steroid discussion with this post, but I’ll leave you with this as food for thought:
