Tom McCarthy Stepping in for Jim Nantz on Sunday
Tom McCarthy is the Phillies’ television play-by-play guy, but you’re probably well aware that he does football and basketball as well.
This weekend, he’s being elevated with a sweet gig:
Tom McCarthy will work with Tony Romo on the Tampa Bay-Carolina game this Sunday for CBS.
Jim Nantz will be out this week due to health & safety protocols.

T Mac stepping in for Nantz. Pretty cool.
It’s a game with playoff implications, because even though Tampa already clinched, seeding hasn’t been determined yet. The Eagles and Cowboys play Saturday night, but the Bucs and Rams are both 4:25 p.m. Sunday games, so regardless of who plays in this one, the postseason bracket will still be a work in progress.
Not sure if you agree, but I think T Mac does a good job calling football. He did Rutgers and Princeton games back in the day, so when he added the CBS gig in 2014 it was a pretty smooth NFL transition. His main partner this year has been Tiki Barber, and I don’t think McCarthy has ever done a game with Romo, though I could be wrong.
Here are some of his old football calls, but you gotta watch the video on Youtube:
