Coots’ 2021-2022 season officially ends with 29 games played, six goals, 11 assists, and 17 points. Big bummer when you go back and think about Chuck Fletcher’s offseason moves and the excitement that followed the roster reshuffle. Coots signed that eight year, $62 million extension in August and then wound up on the shelf with Ryan Ellis and a rotating cast of other Flyers. He’s only two years removed from that Selke Trophy.
Fletcher spoke to media on Friday morning and explained that this “wasn’t an issue that was bothering (Coots) coming into this year.” The GM noted that Couturier had problems in the Fall, they tried to resolve the injury in other ways, and then all agreed that surgery was the choice to make. He’s expected to need about three months of recovery and then should be back in time for training camp.
