Derek Jeter Parting Ways with Marlins
If Major League Baseball gets its shit together and gets this labor stoppage sorted, the Marlins will have a new CEO:
Derek Jeter and the Miami Marlins have decided to mutually part ways. He will step down as CEO effective immediately per sources.

Mission accomplished for Derek Jeter. The Marlins finished with one winning record during his tenure, which was the fake 31-29 season in which 16 teams made the postseason. They got to the NLDS and were swept by Atlanta. Otherwise, they struggled with a low payroll to scrape the 60 win threshold, and traded away the 2017 and 2018 NL MVPs in Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich.
“Through hard work, trust and accountability, we transformed every aspect of the franchise, reshaping the workforce and developing a long-term strategic plan for success,” the 47-year-old Jeter said in a statement released through PR Newswire rather than the Marlins. “That said, the vision for the future of the franchise is different than the one I signed up to lead.”
What that meant wasn’t exactly clear, though Jeter — who wasn’t physically around the team on a day-to-day basis — previously said he had trouble remaining patient in his quest to make the Marlins a winner.
…
In the short term, it would seem likely that more of the leadership role will fall on Kim Ng — the general manager who Jeter brought to Miami in 2020 and made her the first female GM in a major professional sport in North America.”
The Marlins are an embarrassment to baseball. The Phillies aren’t far behind, but still. We can fire off plenty of Jeter jokes on this here website, but their farm system is really good and ours stinks. Whatever. Wake me up when the owners, who don’t even like baseball, decide they want to start this season.
