Monday morning, we shared the video of the donnybrook at the Golden Corral on Street Road in Bensalem. It was insane. You had people hurling chairs at each other. One guy even picked up a table and threatened to turn it into a projectile. It was like a contemporary version of West Side Story, but with more violence and less choreography.

The local news stations sent reporters out to cover the story, and at CBS 3 Matt Petrillo got the assignment:

(Dylan) Becker, who used to work at the Bensalem Golden Corral, says he was told by a current employee about the initial altercation.

“From what I heard it was over steak, apparently somebody cut in line,” Becker said.

His friend heard the same details.

“There was a shortage of steak and two parties were involved and one family cut in front of another family, they were taking their time and they ran out of steak and it got into a heated exchange at the tables,” Gaven Lauletta said.

In the video, a man is heard saying “all I wanted was some steak.”

Golden Corral wouldn’t answer our email asking if a lack of steak caused the melee.

lol

I think Golden Corral should have to answer that email. The Delaware Valley must know if a lack of steak caused the melee.

Good stuff though. “All I wanted was some steak,” reminds me of the Sixers fan who was going off on Isaiah Thomas a few years ago, and then when pressed for an explanation, he said he was just trying to get a free Frosty. Can you blame the guy? The Frosty Freeze Out is a “big fucking deal,” which is what Biden said to Obama when they did the healthcare thing however many years ago.

There are two ways to proceed here. One, Golden Corral nixes the “endless buffet” approach. One steak per person from now on. No more all-you-can-eat policy, because patrons obviously can’t behave like normal human beings.  Or, two, we get both involved parties down to a Sixers game, they hash it out and then ring the bell as a group. Then everybody reconciles and we put this thing to bed.

EDIT –

Action News got another account from a guy named Alexis Rios, who was there:

Rios says the person in front of him became angry with the cook because Rios received his steak first.

“(The cook is) trying to understand what you want and give you what you want,” he says. “I had a rare steak, which is a lot faster to cook than a well-done steak. That’s why I got my steak first.”

Rios says everyone was wearing masks and had a hard time hearing each other. He believes this may have caused the fight to escalate.

“With Covid right now, masks and everything, nobody can hear nobody sometimes,” said Rios.

Amazing. What a story.
