Breaking Birds news this afternoon:

Let it be known that the Let’s Go to the Phones boys had it first:

Shout out Uncle Coggin, Co-host Chris, and Producer Pat. Shout out Mike Garafolo and Adam Schefter.

This WOULD seem like a shock on the surface, but Cox’s play had regressed in recent years. We shouldn’t be too surprised by this. As the scribes note, a re-worked deal is still possible, though no clue if that’s what Fletch is looking for. Would you take less money if you enjoy playing here and feel committed? Does he feel slighted? What’s the relationship like with the front office? Nobody knows!

Obviously we know about the 2021 trade rumors. It was reported that the Birds did look to move him last year, which Cox later confirmed, before saying this:

“They wanted me here; Mr. Lurie wanted me here,” said Cox. “This organization wanted me here. I wanted to be here. I’ve been here for 10 years and happy to be here.”

Possible shift in tone since that situation was resolved.

So yeah, very intrigued to see what happens here. The Eagles typically commit to franchise legend type of players, but maybe this signifies a shift, unless it’s a unique outlier of a situation. If they do move on from Cox for good, they are really thin on the interior defensive line, and that could signify going DT at 15 or 16, and/or making a free agency move. Milton Williams and Marlon Tuipulota are there while Javon Hargrave enters his final contract year.
