Howie Roseman Reportedly Gets a Contract Extension
Good scoop here from Jimmy Kempski over at Voice:
Howie Roseman has agreed to a three-year extension to remain the Philadelphia Eagles’ general manager, according to a source. Roseman was previously in the final year of a contract that he signed during the summer of 2018.
Roseman has had a variety of job titles, but he has been the Eagles’ primary decision maker since 2010, with a one-year break in 2015 when Chip Kelly assumed full control of roster construction.
And during that one-year break, Howie was banished to storage closet B, while Chip ran the team into the ground. Roseman came out of storage closet B to draft Carson Wentz and then put together a Super Bowl winner with Nick Foles, Alshon Jeffery, Timmy Jernigan, Jay Ajayi, etc.
The results since then have been meh, but in order to judge Howie properly, you really have to look at the big picture. The Birds very rarely stink. They’ve been in the playoffs four of the last five years and went 9-8 in what we’d all agree was a transitional season. He’s had some egregious draft misses, but he’s also done a beautiful job of compiling assets and accelerating this rebuild (in addition to the 2016-2017 turnaround).
I know people love to bitch about Howie, and there are legit things to bitch about, but when you go around the NFL and look at the jobs some other GMs have done, you really should feel pretty comfortable with Roseman, flaws included. Plus, it’s not like Jeffrey Lurie is gonna get rid of him anyway. We’re stuck with Howie whether we like it or not.
Go Birds.
