Adam “Schefty” Schefter did his weekly call with 97.5 on Wednesday morning, and the Eagles quarterback topic came up:

If the Eagles aren’t “big players” in the Kenny Pickett/Malik Willis sweepstakes, and all of the quarterback trade movement has already taken place, then it means we’re getting another year of Jalen Hurts. Who else is out there anyway? Baker Mayfield?

Schefter has repeated that line about Watson before. He said last week or the week before that there was nothing to the Watson/Eagles thing, but he’s a Howie Roseman guy, so who knows if he’s fibbing. John McMullen and others reported that Watson turned down Eagles interest because he was loyal to Hurts and didn’t want to take his job, and then you had stuff like this from Joe Santoliquito:

What has filtered out in the last three weeks, and what three very informed NFL sources maintain, is the Eagles were indeed strong suitors in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, won or lost depending on your perspective, by the Cleveland Browns on Friday, considering how much Cleveland gave up to acquire the embattled former Houston Texans’ quarterback.

It was Watson’s choice, many published reports as well as NFL sources maintain, that prevented Watson from becoming an Eagle.

Not sure we’ll ever get the truth here. Either the Eagles really like Jalen Hurts or they whiffed on Watson/Russell Wilson/etc and there’s a lid being put on that.

The more relevant thing now is looking at this QB class, which is not strong. Mel Kiper Jr put out his latest mock on Tuesday and he doesn’t have a QB going until 18 overall, which is Kenny Pickett to the Saints. He’s got Matt Corral to the Lions at 32 and that’s it for first round quarterbacks.

Seems like we’re gonna be riding with Hurts for another year, yeah? Get ready. Run the ball! Ground and pound!
