The Eagles went into this offseason with nine unrestricted free agents and four restricted free agents in Nate Herbig, Boston Scott, Alex Singleton, and Greg Ward.

We have some news on this front:

As explained, these guys hit the open market and are free to sign with any team they’d like. Scott and Singleton have never played for anybody but the Eagles, though Scott was drafted by the Saints and had a cup of practice squad coffee before he was ultimately waived and found his way to Philadelphia. Singleton came over from the CFL after going through a similar practice squad roulette. Both are in their 20s and might find a spot on a minimum contract unless the Eagles come back around later in the process.

One guy the Birds did tender was Herbig, according to Schefter, and Jimmy Kempski over at Voice explained it like this:

The Eagles will tender Herbig at the “low tender” level. If another team offers Herbig a contract, the Eagles will have the option to match it. If they choose not to match and Herbig leaves for a new team, the Eagles will not be compensated with a draft pick. If Herbig does not attract offers from other teams and signs his tender with the Eagles, he will cost $2,433,000 in 2022.

For a guy who has been a third stringer in each of the last two seasons, Herbig has played a lot of snaps. In fact, in 2020 and 2021 combined, Herbig played 1,493 snaps, third-most among Eagles offensive linemen.

Herbig is more than serviceable and can step in when needed. He’s worth keeping around as a backup interior lineman.

That leaves Ward, who likely will not be tendered and can go be a free agent. He’s 26 years old. Wonder if Doug brings him to Jacksonville on a cheap deal.

EDIT – I am an idiot because the Eagles actually did bring back Ward:
