Umpire Angel Hernandez was booed by many fans in attendance at Citizens Bank Park ahead of the series finale between the Brewers and Phillies. It was just a simple case of a reputation preceding a person.

Hernandez, who at this point must know how bad he is at calling balls and strikes, failed to meet even the lowest of expectations in front of a national audience Sunday night.

He incorrectly rung up four (!) batters on pitches outside of the zone in three innings.

To be fair, all you can ask of an umpire is fairness and consistency.

While Hernandez routinely fails to demonstrate either trait, both teams were victimized by bad calls.

A huge shoutout to Brodes Media for clipping the highlights. The man is doing God’s work.

Be sure to check out the reactions, especially Andrew McCutchen’s bat toss/look of disgust 1-2 combo.

Of course, the worst call of the night came in a big spot for the Phillies — one in which they had a rare scoring opportunity.

Kyle Schwarber led off the fifth inning with a double to give the Phillies their first runner in scoring position since the third inning of Saturday’s loss, ending a span of 10 innings. A few batters later, Jean Segura came to the plate and took this pitch for a strike:

Segura would later pop out for the second out before Rhys Hoskins missed a center-cut fastball to spoil the threat.
