Great news! (thick sarcasm) –

There were weekend rumblings that the mask mandate was coming back, and here it is. The city only just dropped this about five weeks ago.

The first Sixers playoff game is on Saturday, so you actually will not have to mask for that game. Game 2, however, is when this will kick in  again. It’s so fucking stupid. Meantime, the Flyers have two more home games after the 18th and the Wings’ two remaining games are on the road.

This whole thing is, of course, fugazi. People weren’t even wearing masks when they were required. They would sit there sipping a beer or munching on nachos the entire game with their masks down.

And in the CBS writeup, this is the key line:

“The city says it’s reporting 142 new cases per day, which is more than 50% higher than 10 days ago, Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole said. Bettigole said the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 remains low, at 46 people.”

46 people. In a city of more than 1.5 million. Cases are going up, yet hospitalization remains very low, but we’re going back to the masks anyway.

Come join me in the suburbs. I’m serious. There are no mask mandates out here. You don’t have to pay 3.8% city wage tax or whatever the number is, and you don’t have to worry about being mugged or car jacked. No, you can’t really walk anywhere, and the restaurants kind of stink, but at least you don’t have ridiculous restrictions being added, then removed, then added again, then removed, then added again, then removed, then added again, then removed, then added again, then removed, etc.
