Eagles news:

So it’s the Dolphins and Browns this year.

Now if you’ll recall, the Eagles are defending joint practice champions of the world. Nobody performed better at joint practices last season than the Birds. Eliot Shorr-Parks logged all of the stats, so we know for sure that they won these sessions:

Twitter user Pat chimed in about the Dolphins being on the schedule, saying this:

“If nothing else, practicing against Tua when he’s throwing ducks to Tyreek will give the Eagles’ secondary unwarranted confidence that they can defend elite receivers.”

Truer words have not been spoken. Marcus Epps is gonna look like the second coming of Ronnie Lott when he picks off Tua for the sixth time that week. We’re gonna go into week 1 thinking we’ve got the best secondary of all time and eternity. They will be predicting a Super Bowl victory on sports talk radio.

On a more serious note, these joint practice sessions have taken the place of preseason football. The preseason games are utterly useless because the coaches believe they get the reps they need in these pseudo-scrimmages instead. They get more reps and better reps from simulated game situations, and that gives them all they need to evaluate their team. We’ve already cut the preseason down to three games anyway, right? Jalen Hurts is gonna go out there and play a few series, but he really doesn’t need to because he’s already carved up the Browns and Dolphins in joint practice sessions.

Unfortunately preseason football and training camp has gone the way of the Dodo Bird and Passenger Pigeon. Maybe that’s a good thing or maybe not, but at least fans got to actually witness past exercises in this area. It’s a different approach these days. Luckily for us we’ve got 50 media members down there live tweeting it for us.

The Eagles are defending joint practice champions of the world. We must protect this house!
