Let’s get it back to hockey.

As you know, the Flyers don’t have a coach. Here are a few Frank Seravalli nuggets:

Jeff Blashill came up through the Detroit ranks and coached the Red Wings for seven seasons. Cassidy obviously was just fired by the Bruins and TORTS is TORTS.

There are six current openings in the NHL – Philly, Detroit, Vegas, Boston, Dallas, and Winnipeg. Those are good jobs. There are a couple of interim situations as well. You figure Barry Trotz and Cassidy will end up with two of those gigs, then think about Rick Tocchet as a possibility here, or maybe Jim Montgomery. Paul Maurice, anybody? TORTS seems like an X-factor of sorts. People don’t seem to have a middle-road opinion on him coaching the Flyers. People either love that idea or hate it.

This is probably gonna open up once Trotz is hired somewhere. It’s like a Barry Trotz log jam. Once he moves, the rest of the dominoes fall from there. Hopefully he moves to PHILA, but I can’t imagine the Flyers are near the top of the list or even on his list at all, though he did interview here.

It’s actually a really interesting NHL offseason in the coaching ranks. We’ll see how this all shakes out.
