It’s always interesting to turn on the radio after something internal and big happens.

In this case, Mikey Miss is out, and announced the news on Tuesday, so Gargano’s Wednesday show was pretty fascinating. He talked in a macro sense about the importance of sports talk radio, and openly mentioned his days with talent from 94 WIP, which breaks an unwritten radio rule. You’re not supposed to talk about “the other station,” right? You have to do the corny thing where you pretend the competition doesn’t exist.

That resulted in a couple of somewhat blunt/honest/emotional phone calls, this one from Jerome:

“I can’t even think about 2 to 6 and not hearing him.”

And here’s Gargano being pretty blunt about management:

“The only downside is management.”

Not sure if Beasley will appreciate that line, but The Cuz isn’t wrong when he talks about chess pieces. Talent is expendable. Management is whimsical. One day you’re top of the world, next thing you know you’re out the door and replaced by your producer. You go from being the face of the station to out of a job. Everybody is excess at some point.

Anyway, go back and listen to some of Anthony’s show from Wednesday if you have a few minutes. I don’t want to use the term “bitch session,” because that sounds crass, so if anybody has a synonym for that, let me know. Maybe “decompressing session” is more appropriate. It was a forum for expressing disappointment. A safe space for conversation. There was a lot of open Mike talk.

As a quick aside, I think Mike should come back on his final contract day and do a proper farewell. Take phone calls from Bernie from Broomall and Vicente from Ecuador. Hola Mike! And then we’ll get Charles Barkley and Stephen A Smith on the line. I may even call up to talk about unpaid internships. Give Mike a real send off. Let’s #DoTheDeal.
