The Eagles play a preseason game on Friday night. Will the starters feature?

Nick Sirianni said this during Wednesday morning’s media availability at training camp:

“Don’t have to make a final decision obviously until they go out there, but we’re thinking 1-2 series with the starters.”

That might be surprising considering how safe the Birds are playing it in camp this year, but it’s actually in line with what the team did last season. You’ll recall Jalen Hurts was out there for the Steelers preseason game last August, going 3-7 in the passing game and running the ball once for four yards. The starters then came out and Joe Flacco and Nick Mullens played the rest of the game.

Hurts, you may recall, was also set to play in the second game, that 35-0 loss to New England, but he was kept out at the last minute (via AP writeup) –

The Eagles (0-2) played without starter Jalen Hurts, a late scratch because of an unspecified illness (the Eagles said it was not COVID-19 related). Hurts seemed fine when he danced on the field during warmups.

Hurts went to the hospital because of abdominal pain. He was discharged.

“For a guy like that to tell us, he’s a tough guy, it must have been hurting him pretty good,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said.

Either way, I’m just glad we’re gonna see Hurts throw in something more meaningful than training camp. We’re inching closer to reps that matter.
