Montgomery Mall Security Guard Apparently Stole Signed Kobe Jersey and Pawned it Off in Chalfont
Here’s a doozy out of Montco.
From Keith Heffintrayer at North Penn Now:
A security guard at the Montgomery Mall is facing charges after she allegedly stole a $5,000 autographed Kobe Bryant jersey from S&B Sports Collectibles then sold it to another collectible store in Chalfont.
Caitlin Fry, 27, of North Wales, has been charged with felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property, in connection with the investigation by the Montgomery Township Police Department. She is currently free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
First off, I’m surprised the Montgomery Mall has anything worth stealing. That place has seen better days. Half of the store fronts are empty. It’s depressing and we need to bring back the glory days of the shopping mall.
Second, if you’re gonna lift something, you can’t just drive to the next town and pawn it. I’ve never stolen or fenced anything before, but that seems like the first chapter of Theft 101, which could be a book about burglary or student loans.
Heffintrayer notes that “the owners of Sports Connection in Chalfont reached out stating they had purchased the jersey from Fry on Tuesday, and a copy of her identification card was taken during the process of the purchase.” That apparently matched authentication paperwork that was left at the Montco Mall store and Fry then confessed to the crime (according to the police report).
