The MLB trade deadline is 6 p.m. Tuesday, and so far nothing huge yet from the Phillies, though there is this:

(EDIT – new tweet here) –

My first thought was “why would the Mariners be sellers at the deadline?” They’re 55-49 and have a chance to break the longest playoff drought in Major League Baseball, but they also have Robbie Ray, Logan Gilbert, Chris Flexen, and now Luis Castillo (via recent trade) up there in Cascadia. If you can flip a 5th starter for an asset that addresses a need, then that’s a transaction that makes sense for them.

Gonzales has a 3.95 ERA this season over 118 innings pitched. He’s posting a 4.9 SO/9 number, 3.0 BB/9, and 1.386 WHIP. He got rocked by the Yankees last night, but most pitchers do, so take that for what it’s worth.

RE: Syndergaard, you know the story with him. He’s on a one-year, $21 million deal on that embarrassment of an Angels team. They are so annoying. You’ve got Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani wasting their careers out there. Liberate both of those guys, please.

But yeah, Thor, just not the same guy he was a few years ago. His fastball has dipped this season and he’s got a long list of injuries that hampered what looked like a promising career following that 2016 All Star Game appearance. He’s still a serviceable pitcher with a 3.83 ERA this season and decent strikeout and walk numbers, but you’re getting 2022 Syndergaard obviously and not the guy who pitched for the Mets.

Standing by for Phillies news.
