Here's a Good Mike Missanelli Interview
Jeff Blumenthal at the Philadelphia Business Journal recently did an interview with Mikey Miss.
Some great stuff here about his Fanatic departure:
I was kind of in on the ground floor of the radio station and was a major part of building the brand of the radio station,” Missanelli said. “So I thought to that extent it was kind of unjust what they did.”
Missanelli said management never gave him an exact reason for choosing to move on to a new trio of hosts — Hunter Brody, Ricky Bottalico and Missanelli’s longtime producer, Tyrone Johnson. He said he had heard people talk about his high salary at a time when media companies are looking to cut expenses. He also raised the possibility that the strong liberal political views he sometimes expresses on air could have worn on the Fanatic’s owner, Fort Myers, Florida-based Beasley Broadcasting Group (NASDAQ: BBGI).
It also says in the piece that Mike has been in contact with Angelo Cataldi. Maybe one of them will end up on the other’s show.
But yeah, we touched on all of this in various CB articles. The political thing is interesting, because Caroline Beasley has a history of political donations to Republican candidates and organizations, which is heavily focused in Florida, where the company is headquartered. I was also told behind the scenes that management wasn’t super-thrilled with Mike’s constant political talk. They didn’t necessarily care that he was a liberal, per se, it was more about the frequency with which non-sports topics would come up in conversation.
Here’s the full story. Give it a read:
Since his surprising final show at The Fanatic in May, veteran sports talk radio host Mike Missanelli has had time to reflect on his departure. He said management never gave him an exact reason for choosing to move on to a new trio of hosts. https://t.co/6vgdldW3jB
