Jason Kelce speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s season opener in Detroit:

Kelce has always been open and honest, a no frills kind of guy, but already this year there’s more bluntness from him, which did not seem possible. He speaks very matter-of-factly, but not in a brusque or rude way. It’s more of a “I’m a veteran and probably playing my last year, let’s be 100% honest here.” There is no beating around the bush.

Beyond that observation, he’s right. “Comfort” is not necessarily good thing. Sometimes it leads to complacency, and you lose focus, and your mentality is wrong. And when you talk about expectations, it shouldn’t change anything in your daily approach. Super Bowl contenders and the Houston Texans/New York Giants should all be preparing and working at the same level. You have to go out there play the games. Fans and media will do the expectations and power rankings and predictions. Players and coaches have to control what they can control.

Good stuff from Kelce, as always.
