Well it’s over. I didn’t want to write anything, and I don’t think anybody wants to read anything, but I felt obligated to put something on the site after the Phillies lost the World Series in six games, going down 4-1 on Saturday night.

Bob, Anthony, and Tim will have better articles this week, but as a knee-jerk reaction I think the bothersome thing is not that they lost, it’s how they lost. They went into the World Series as an underdog. Nobody is naive enough to think they were gonna steamroll a 106-win team that had yet to lose in the postseason, but they went up 2-1 in this series and then were no-hit in Game 4 before mustering a grand total of three runs in Games 5 and 6. They did enough to make us all believe. They stole Game 1. They blasted five home runs in Game 3. They took a Game 6 lead with Zack Wheeler on the mound and DEALING. There were plenty of moments in this series where you thought they might actually do this…

…and yet they lost three straight to bring this series to a close.

In a way, it feels a little bit like the 2001 Sixers. A magical Cinderella run that comes to an end against prime Kobe and Shaq, or in this case an Astros team that is chock full of great players. As annoying as guys like Framber Valdez and Kyle “emu neck” Tucker are, you have to give that squad a lot of credit, at least the non-cheaters among the group. Yordan Alvarez came up huge on Saturday night, Cristian Javier pitched like a boss. Alex Bregman knocked in four runs and Jeremy Pena is damn good. They just made more plays and came up with more clutch hits than the Phillies did.

It’s shitty because I thought we had a chance at winning TWO championships with the Phils and Union, but we ended up with zero, and in brutal fashion for both. But as we all wallow in justified misery, I’ll wrap it up with some Posidelphia here, because I don’t know what else to do:

  1. Phillies baseball is back. Nobody gave half a shit for 10 years, but they do now.
  2. This team overachieved and should be commended for it.
  3. John Middleton spent money and was rewarded for it.
  4. Rob Thomson is the guy and I’m happy to have him managing this team moving forward.
  5. Likewise with Dave Dombrowski running player-personnel.
  6. Bryce Harper is a legitimate superstar.
  7. Finally, real Phillies hot stove talk.

This was a magical run. Yeah, it’s raw right now, and no one gives a shit, but we’re gonna look back on this years from now and really appreciate what we witnessed.

Take it easy, get some sleep.
