I had to double check this was written by Todd McShay and not Mel Kiper, but yea, in McShay’s Mock Draft 1.0 he has the Eagles taking Texas RB Bijan Robinson. Here’s what he had to say:

Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas

This is a serious luxury pick for the 12-win Eagles after landing this selection from the Saints in the 2022 offseason. Per ESPN Stats & Information research, the last time a team went to a Super Bowl (as ESPN’s FPI projects) and then had a top-five draft pick was 1992, when Washington won the championship and then drafted Desmond Howard fourth overall via a trade-up. I considered Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee here, because GM Howie Roseman values the interior defensive line, and pairing Bresee with Jordan Davis up the middle would give Philadelphia quite the run-stopping duo. However, Miles Sanders is set to be a free agent, this offense leans heavily on the run (433 rushes, second most in the NFL), and Robinson is a special prospect with elite size, speed, power and elusiveness.

I know the “it’s too early for a running back” arguments are coming, and I agree 99% of the time. But why spend heavily on re-signing Sanders or bringing in another back in free agency when Robinson — who is an upgrade — is available here on a rookie deal? Robinson cruised to 1,580 yards and 18 TDs on the ground this season while breaking 91 tackles. Dropping him into the league’s best offense would be scary for every other team. Philly also has another first-rounder down the board…

The logic makes more sense than we want to admit BUT…

If Howie Roseman drafts a running back with a top-5 pick I will walk back and forth across the Ben Franklin Bridge in a speedo in the middle of the winter. We have a better chance of seeing God than Howie burning a pick on a position that averages three years of service time in the NFL. There hasn’t been a RB off the board in the top-5 since Saquon Barkley in 2018 and that pick set the Giants back five years. No RB has been selected before the 24th pick since.

I know we can’t question Howie right now because he’s brought us out of the depths of hell from two years ago, but if he took Robinson top-5 all of that good karma would evaporate. Especially when you have enough DL and OL prospects in the top-10 to reinforce an aging line. I think Howie ends up flipping the pick for a king’s ransom. Some team is going to fall in love with Will Levis or CJ Stroud and want to jump up. Maybe Anthony Richardson impresses and he shoots up draft boards. The Colts, Raiders, and Panthers all need QBs and sit in the top-11. They could move up in front of the Falcons, who McShay mocked Levis to as well, and get their guy. Howie is going to take some poor team to the cleaners:
