Oh no:

Doc is now Frankie Coffeecake from A Bronx Tale. We may have to put a towel over his head or move him to the bathroom, because he’s bad luck. He’s a jinx.

This blog is somewhat of a departure from the Posidelphia that Pagan and I have been preaching all season long. There’s too much negativity surrounding a 13-win Eagles team. They will wrap up the #1 seed on Sunday, but not so sure this team is cruising right into the Super Bowl. I know Doc is messing around here, but this is Philadelphia sports. It’s serious. Not a joking matter. The positivity is welcomed but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Take out the Giants on Sunday, get healthy, enjoy the bye week, and then it’s go time.

By the way, when the Birds were cruising in 2017, I asked Brett Brown if other local teams being good had a legit effect on his squad. He referenced the “Pygmalion Effect” in what amounted to an interesting response:

“You ‘feel’ the city. We want that. We want to have a playoff game here. I’ve said to the team, both my parents are school teachers, my mom was a third grade teacher for 27 years and my dad was a high school teacher for 18 or 19. When they would always talk about the students and how the kids were raised, they’d talk about this thing that was actually called the ‘Pygmalion Effect,’ that people who knew what they wanted and were raised in a high level of expectation and accountability often times received it more than other kids. We wanna play in the playoffs, and here we are with five games at home. To be able to look across the street and see what the Eagles did and the way they did it, it’s an amazing story. They lost Carson and they found a way as a staff, organization, and team, to move on and get it done. So when you feel the city and watch that team and live here, you recognize the stories of perseverance, and you recognize that here we are, too, right across the street. We want to share that.”

Fascinating! Let’s hope it rubs off on the Sixers and Flyers, the recent Eagles/Phillies/Union success.
