I've Got a Gripe with the Sixers Broadcast
And you people are going to hear about it. Why do they choose to run the IBC Plays of the Game with two minutes left to go in the first quarter? It makes absolutely zero sense:

People haven’t even gotten to their seats yet and the producers at NBC Sports Philly already decided the Sixers game has peaked. I’m not saying this is a huge deal, but when the Hyundai Drive of the Game is a DeAnthony Melton “And 1” to give the Sixers a 10-8 lead, the director has to laugh at himself right? People seem to be right with me:

And listen, I know NBCSports has to make its bones, but Scott Van Pelt wasn’t showing a wide open dunk, transition three, and layup with some contact in the lane on ESPN last night:

Why not just wrap the best plays from the game and show it after the first TV timeout in the fourth quarter? Unless they have data that says more people watch the first quarter than the fourth. Which doesn’t make sense to me, but hey, they blew out the Pistons even though there were some IBC Plays of the Game worthy highlights:

I’m probably just tired of all the sponsorships. You ever listen to Merrill and Mike Quick before an Eagles game? It’s amazing how many promos they can squeeze between 12:45pm and kickoff. Before the Colts game, Merrill looked at the windows of Lucas Oil Stadium and how the sunlight was shining through them and turned it into a Pella Windows and Doors ad. Truly remarkable stuff. Even Merrill, in a Q&A with Victor Fiorillo at Philly Mag last week, mentioned this when he was asked what has changed on the business end since he started calling games:
You think about the salaries of the athletes. Then there are the sponsorships. So many. I used to just call the games. Now, my producer is constantly handing me pieces of paper: “The Eagles are in the Deborah Heart & Lung Center Red Zone,” or, “That was the Hand & Stone Massage play of the day.”
