Eagles special teams coach Michael Clay is getting a raise and extension to stay with the team. Don’t think this is going to go over well with the fanbase after an average season and his unit giving up a huge punt return in the Super Bowl:

The Eagles were 31st in the league as a unit according to Rick Gosselin’s Special Teams rankings. The kicker there is the Chiefs finished dead last. If you dig deeper into Gosselin’s rankings you’ll see that there were six playoff teams in the bottom eight. Those rankings also take into account the return side of the ball. I can’t remember any long returns Britain Covey had off the top of my head this season. I only remember him getting obliterated every time he had the balls to return one.

If you peek at the rankings from Lineups.com the Eagles were middle of the road in opponent’s punt and kick return yards. Where they absolutely blew was punt yard average and punt yard net average. Finishing 27th and 29th in the league. Maybe it’s a personnel issue. The guy’s had two stops in Philly with two different coaches so obviously the organization sees something.
