Per Dan Graziano at ESPN:

I expect the Eagles to work to sign quarterback Jalen Hurts to an extension early in the offseason. They know the price has likely gone to $50 million a year or more, and with Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and the Chargers’ Justin Herbert also extension-eligible this summer, and a Lamar Jackson megadeal still possible, the prices at the top of the QB market could ratchet up quickly. Say Trevor Lawrence and/or Justin Fields has a big 2023 and are in line for an extension next summer, or the Cowboys get something done with Dak Prescott. The sooner the Eagles get their deal done with Hurts, the less time the market has to drive up the price.

Do it:

I know people are going to have visions of Carson Wentz after Jalen signs this deal, but in my mind Jalen is the total opposite of Carson’s situation. First off, the locker room loves him. It’s not like it’s 60% of the guys love him, 10% hate his guts, and the other 30% are indifferent. You just hope the ankle surgery from last year and the impending shoulder fix don’t catch up to him.

This team also has way more of an identity looking toward the future than that 2017 team did. AJ Brown and Dallas Goedert are locked up. DeVonta Smith has two more years until his extension comes. Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson will anchor the line together for at least the next two seasons, plus there’s a top-10 pick! The Eagles are in a better spot for the future than they were when they signed Carson. Not to mention, $50 million a year is going to look like child’s play once Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert get their deals.
