Schefter was on 97.5 the Fanatic this morning:

Johnson was long rumored to replace Shane Steichen in case the latter decided to depart, which he did on Tuesday, taking the Indy job. Johnson is currently the Birds’ QB coach and has known Jalen Hurts forever, so hiring him from Florida made a ton of sense. He’s only 35 years old but played four years at Utah in college and held various NCAA jobs before making the leap to the NFL with the Eagles. He’s highly regarded down at NovaCare.

Johnson, believe it or not, would be the first black offensive or defensive coordinator for the Eagles since Emmitt Thomas in 1998. It’s true that Todd Bowles was DC for a short time in 2012, but that was on an interim basis, so I’m not gonna count it. If you add special teams, Michael Clay is currently in charge there.

That’s pretty wild, isn’t it? The Eagles have had a lot of black QBs and black position coaches and generally run a diverse operation, but it’s been mostly white dudes as head coach or DC/OC going back to the 90s. Gannon/Schwartz/Bill Davis/Jim Johnson/etc. Then on the other side of the ball it was Steichen/Groh/Reich/Shumur/Mornhinweg/Childress/etc.
