Officially official:

Not much to say here. Steichen was excellent this season. Very few gripes about the play calling and offensive game planning. The Birds were elite on his side of the ball and put up 35 points in the Super Bowl. It’s hard to do much better than that.

Steichen’s main goal in Indy will be finding a franchise quarterback. It’s just haunted that franchise for years now. Andrew Luck retired, they tried Carson Wentz, had a year of Philip Rivers, Jacoby Brissett, then rolled Matt Ryan, Nick Foles, and Sam Ehlinger. They’ve got the 4th overall pick coming up and the only two first round QBs they’ve drafted since 1998 are Luck and Peyton Manning.

Good luck to Steichen out there, and God speed. He has to work for Jim Irsay now. He also has to speak more frequently with the media. I think we shared maybe 4 Steichen quotes in two years because his press conferences are more boring than watching paint dry. “But that’s okay,” as Joe Cordell once said, because Steichen is a hell of a coach.
