Damn. This hurts. The Eagles are releasing Darius Slay:

Slay wanted to get paid and now he’ll have the opportunity:

I think this move will be argued about the most leading up to the draft and into training camp. You could argue, with Slay at age 32, that Howie Roseman is trying to get in front of the decline and you could argue that Slay didn’t make an impact play on defense after October of last year. You could also argue no QB wanted to throw the ball his way, he’s beloved in that locker room, and still played at a Pro Bowl level. DB is the hardest position to play in the NFL and hardest to assess. Both sides can be right. But this draft is loaded with first-round DB talent, so a player under team control should be better for the team long term. This just sucks because Slay was a fan favorite and an All-Pro story teller:

This has to mean they have a deal in place for CJGJ right? No chance they let Slay go when he was willing to play out his last year without a backup plan.
