The Phillies are 7-11 and split a doubleheader with the White Sox on Tuesday, but at least this happened:

Puddin’ Head Jones held the previous record, which was a 16-game hitting streak to begin the 1950 season. We’ll have to get Puddin’ Head on Crossing Broadcast to talk about it.

The Phils won the first game 7-4 then dropped the second 3-0 while mustering a grand total of one hit, and it didn’t come from Stott. Only Brandon Marsh was able to keep the Phils from being no-hit when he got on base in the top of the 8th with a double to left field, so the streak ended on the same day it was broken.  The Phils can take the series this afternoon with Taijuan Walker on the mound against our old friend Mike Clevinger, who looks like he plays in a thrash metal band with Bailey Falter and Matt Strahm.

So the Stott streak ends at 17 games, but what a start for him. What a bright spot through the excruciatingly slow part of the season. He’s hitting .363 with .370 on base percentage and slugging .475. That’s good for an .845 OPS. He’s got 29 hits and six doubles while knocking in six runs, but most importantly, providing the Phillies with a new lead off option and something to be excited about during this April slog.
