The NL Championship rings are pretty sick….

…but fans overwhelmingly seem to hate them. Why? Because they’re participation trophies. That’s the gist. The Phils didn’t win the World Series, so there’s nothing worth wearing.

I tend to agree with that thought, though the Devil’s Advocate argument would be that winning a pennant is still quite the achievement. These guys took out the Cardinals, Braves, and Padres en route to doing just that, which is worth celebrating. Just not sure the ring with “Dancing on my Own” and all the gaudy extra shit is necessary. Put up a banner in the ballpark or something. NL Champs for the Phils, NFC Champs for the Eagles, and Eastern Conference Champs for the Union. Set it and forget it. That’s Pagan’s thought, and probably the best way to do it here. I agree with him. Banners, sure, fancy rings, nah.

You think someone like Bryce Harper is going to walk around wearing a ring like this when he retires from baseball? This is probably the first and last time he’ll put it on:

What now? Is he displaying it on his mantle? He seems like the type of guy to put it back in the packaging and leave it in the closet.

It’s one thing to reward guys for a great season, but the ultra-competitive portion of the roster probably wants nothing to do with this. They probably think it’s hella corny.
