Frank Seravalli, hockey insider and Sea Isle City enthusiast, wrote via DailyFaceoff.com that a conflict of interest with the Flyers might have surfaced during their search for a new executive:

An apparent conflict of interest has surfaced as the Philadelphia Flyers conduct searches for their next president of hockey operations and general manager.

The Flyers are at least the second NHL team to officially hire Neil Glasberg of PBI Sports as a consultant to help conduct the search – while Glasberg also concurrently represents team executives and head coaches as their agent, who may be candidates for open positions.

The Flyers and the NHL, when asked about the apparent conflict of interest by Daily Faceoff, said they did not believe there was an issue. But multiple coaches currently working in the NHL expressed their concerns with Glasberg’s involvement.

“How could there not be a conflict of interest? This guy has skin in the game on who gets hired where, either directly or indirectly,” one current NHL coach said. “Let’s say a person gets hired who isn’t a Glasberg client. Will he be pressured at some point to hire one of his guys?”

Earlier this week Anthony SanFilippo mentioned the Flyers interviewing Emilie Castonguay could be a conflict of interest since Neil Glasburg lists the Canucks as a client on his agency’s website. Later in the article Seravalli writes the Flyers told him that Glasberg is being paid to offer insights and provide an additional voice while former Sixers GM Billy King is in charge of identifying and bringing in candidates.

The NHL doesn’t seem to bothered by this either:

“We are aware of the relationship and we have no concerns based on what we know,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly wrote in an email to Daily Faceoff this week when asked about Glasberg’s involvement.

It is normal for pro and college sports teams to hire outside consulting firms to find a new executive or coach. The funny thing is this is just so Flyers. Score one big playoff goal in your career? You get a front office position in the Flyers. Fourth line defenseman that strung together a couple good years? Here’s a role with the team. Is your dad friends with one of the greatest Flyers of all time? Here’s a GM gig.

In my opinion, it looks like the odds of the next President of Hockey Ops more than likely is going to be someone Neil Glasberg represented . How do I know this? Cause Glasberg helped in the coaching vacancy with the Flyers last year. Who did Glasberg used to represent? Torts. It doesn’t matter if some future wunderkind executive is out there and wants the job. Chances are if they weren’t repped by Glasberg in another life they won’t be working in the Wells Fargo Center next season. The Flyers operate like a Jersey Shore diner. Only the owners friends and family are allowed to work there.

Russ, Ant, and Bundy talked about this on their newest episode of Snow The Goalie. They’ll give you way more perspective on the situation than I can:
