Andrew Painter continued the war of words that Jared Carrabis and Matt Strahm got into yesterday. The entire blog is here, but the cliff notes version is Carrabis said Strahm’s former Red Sox teammate Kaleb Ort sucks in a video, Strahm responds that no MLB player sucks, there were some tweets back and forth, and then it cooled down. Until Strahm was on the bump today and gave up a two run bomb in the second inning to which Carrabis tweeted this with Painter’s response underneath:

My thought: this is kind of soft on Painter’s part. Don’t get me wrong I love a dude who comes to bat for their teammate, but this doesn’t even sniff the line of scumbag move. I mean there are a million different things said about athletes on the Internet that I saw it before Painter replied and kept scrolling. Solid chirp. We move on.

The kicker for me is the “be more professional” quote. Does Painter know who he’s talking too? I know the guy is only 19, but I’m sure he knows about Barstool being the spot Carrabis made his bones at and then got the bag to do the same exact schtick at Draftkings. You’re not exactly tweeting back at Matt Gelb and Todd Zolecki or someone from ESPN. Painter could’ve done so much worse since I’m pretty sure this dude never made it past JV in high school.

We might have to get Painter in a couple group chats where he can become the brunt of some jokes to toughen up that skin because if this is making him tweet for the first time since last October he’s going to crater after a couple of bad starts in Philadelphia.

Ant has a different take on it:

Ant’s not wrong. This will definitely win him brownie points with a part of the fanbase, and Carrabis is in for a long night on Twitter. But there’s another part that just watched Ben Simmons, Aaron Nola, Carson Wentz, and Joel Embiid go Charmin soft when it counted and are now wondering if their ace is next in line.
