Lionel Messi announced Wednesday that he’ll leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer to join Inter Miami of Major League Soccer.

The Union host Miami on June 24th, yet Messi cannot debut for Inter until July, but that hasn’t stopped an increase of 6/24 ticket prices. On Seat Geek right now, you can get two tickets in section 107 for a cool $600:

At StubHub, tickets are going fast!

Standing room only? Pushing $85 already:

So on and so forth. As of publication, I couldn’t find anything on the secondary market cheaper than $50. Most Union games you can get in for something around $25, and the good sideline seats in the lower bowl hover just above $100 or so. It varies, but from a quick scan, it looks like prices across the board are up 250 to 300%.

But yeah, Messi isn’t playing in this game. He can’t even start here in June, because the MLS secondary transfer window doesn’t open until July 5th. That’s the first day he can become available.

Beyond that, the MLS schedule is a little funky. The league is taking a month-long break to play this stupid “Leagues Cup” tournament with Liga MX, so it’s possible Messi’s first game is against a Mexican team in a meaningless, made-up competition. People in the know seem to think his debut will be mid to late-July, or even August.
