The Phillies beat the Braves 3-1 in the 2023 NLDS. When we write this one into the history books, make sure to include the following Braves excuses:

  1. The layoff was too long. The five-day break between the end of the regular season and beginning of the divisional round caused the entire team to get rusty and/or forget how to hit.
  2. Should have re-seeded after the wild card round to play the #6 Diamondbacks instead of the #4 Phillies.
  3. Blooper received death threats on social media.
  4. A credentialed media member broke the sacred rules of the clubhouse by reporting smack talk that Bryce Harper was not supposed to hear.
  5. Phillies fans doing the chop was racist, which created a toxic environment.
  6. The start times should have been earlier.
  7. The water sprinklers got the Braves’ media gear wet.
  8. Max Fried’s hand was covered in grotesque, seeping pustules.
  9. Spencer Strider’s double IPA was warm and his Lumineers vinyl record was scratched.
  10. Bryce Harper’s throat slash was a despicable act and unsportsmanlike.
  11. Bryce Elder hadn’t pitched since September 26th. He was out of form.

We joke, but Braves fans/media/players brought up all of these things during the NLDS. Well besides the IPA thing. I just added that in there.

But I do have to say that Strider gets respect for saying this after the loss:

Bottom line is that the Braves collectively hit .186 in four games. They walked 11 times, scored only 8 runs, hit three homers, and had a grand total of one extra base hit beyond that. Acuna was quiet. Ozuna was quiet. Olson didn’t do much. Their starting pitching outside of Strider was subpar. That’s pretty much the story here. The Phillies were the better team from start to finish and now the Diamondbacks are absolutely fucked.
