Act Now, Because this Signed Scott Rolen and Rico Brogna Poster Won't be on Facebook Marketplace Forever
When you have little kids, you find yourself dicking around on your phone while they play, and by ‘play’ I mean they destroy your house. So while scrolling Facebook Marketplace this week, I came across a $65 signed Rico Brogna and Scott Rolen 1997 Phillies poster:
Incredible. “The Hot Corners,” featuring third baseman Rolen and first baseman Brogna. The Phillies went 68-94 that year, which was Terry Francona’s first. They drafted J.D. Drew, Rolen won Rookie of the Year, and Curt Schilling set the team’s single-season strikeout record. So it was mostly dog shit with some noteworthy individual accomplishments sprinkled in.
Included in the listing is a letter attributed to Rolen, no doubt with help from some PR flak:
“The beginning of the season was tough, but the guys on this team didn’t quit. Terry certainly deserves a lot of the credit – through it all he never wavered. His patience and up-beat personality allowed us to mature as a team. My first full season in the big leagues was an awesome experience. Being part of Schilling’s record setting year is something I’ll never forget. Rico’s play at first was also special. He saved me and all the infielders quite a few errors. To us, he’s a Gold Glove winner. In appreciation of your support, enclosed please find an autographed poster from Rico and me. . . one small way to say Thank You from the entire team. See you back at the Vet in ’98. I can’t wait.”
Spoiler: they weren’t much better in 1998.
Regardless, these timeless classics can be yours for just $65. The description says the items have “never been used or displayed in original container from the Phillies.”
Act now! These won’t last. Get yourself a piece of history.
