Elliotte Friedman dropped a Flyers-related nugget on Spittin’ Chiclets:

If you truly are a “rebuilding” team, this is the type of deal you do. You’ve got two defensemen right around age 30 on expiring contracts, so you move one for a first round draft pick in return, take on the final year of Cody Ceci’s contract at $3.25 million, then perhaps flip him at the 2025 deadline for another asset. If you’re dealing with Edmonton, that’s a less valuable first rounder, but it’s a first rounder nonetheless, and that’s needed for a team that’s making strides but isn’t quite there yet.

Of course, the Flyers are in a playoff spot and playing much better than anyone thought, so what once seemed like a black and white situation is rather gray, is it not? Nobody seems to have a firm grasp on what Danny Briere is actually planning on doing at the deadline, but the question will be answered soon. It will present a clear understanding of what the front office really has planned for this team over the next year or so. You’ve got the buzz about extension talks with both guys, which may or may not be a smokescreen to create more interest on the trade market, but there’s ambiguity on the Flyers side and we should be very curious to see how it plays out.
