The Flyers lost 2-1 to the Blues in a shootout on Monday night, and the game-tying goal came from Kevin Hayes, who hadn’t scored in 19 straight:

So dumb. It gets worse every time you watch it. Not only is he cherry picking at the blue line, but he loses the puck and sort of stumbles and it goes in anyway.

Why was Hayes wide open? The broadcast showed a replay where Sean Walker knocked him over in the neutral zone, and when he got up he just happened to be on the receiving end of a gift. Bang bang, game tied. It was gross.

The Flyers gave Hayes a video tribute earlier in the game the reaction seemed to be mostly cordial and lukewarm, at least on television:

Some people were theorizing that this was some sort of response to Snow the Goalie and the Cutter Gauthier fiasco, but I don’t think so. The Flyers have been giving anybody and everybody video tributes for years now, so much so that it’s become a running joke. Who’s next for a video tribute? Chris VandeVelde? Andrew MacDonald? Gord Murphy? All three of those guys played more games for the Flyers than Kevin Hayes did. Nothing personal against the guy, but he was here for four seasons when the team was mostly dreck and put up 157 points, which puts him right between Michael Raffl and Kim Johnsson on the Flyers’ all-time list. You do video tributes for Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek, maybe someone like Wayne Simmonds as well. The Flyers doing a video tribute for Kevin Hayes is like the Sixers doing a video tribute for Spencer Hawes. Or the Eagles welcoming back Omar Gaither with the Carolina Panthers.
