We’ve talked a lot about Jason Kelce off the field, how he “gets” Philadelphia and gave everything to the region, but in terms of on-field play, this is my favorite block from his 13-year NFL career:

It’s my favorite because it has a little bit of everything that made Kelce great. First, he was amazing in space, either pulling on running plays or getting to the next level on inside and middle screens. His mobility was exceptional for a center and he played with a lot of strength at the same time, which I think is exemplified in this clip. That’s Mason Foster he’s engaging and moving with one arm, a 6’1″, 240 pound guy. It’s one thing to get out there and squash smaller safeties and defensive backs, but that’s a legitimate linebacker and 3rd round draft pick he’s driving. And he doesn’t even have to detach to lay the second hit on Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, he just clobbers him on the run, which opens up the slightest amount of space for Darren Sproles to engage Foster and wriggle his way into the endzone.

That’s typical Kelce though. Brilliant 1-2 blocks in the open, second-level body moving and pathway widening. He had a number of those throughout his career, and that’s the first thing I’m putting on a YouTube highlight reel. Not sure about you, but I’d be just as inclined to watch a Kelce blocking reel as a receiver or running back touchdown reel. He really was a brilliant player in all regards.
