The only explanation is that the Panthers are just going to rifle through running backs until they find someone decent. They’ve already got Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders, Tarik Cohen, Raheem Blackshear, and drafted Jonathon Brooks out of Texas in the second round. Now in comes Rashaad Penny, who barely even sniffed the field for the Eagles last season. Surely you just throw enough guys at the position and someone will stick, eventually.

Sanders, by the way, had a PUTRID 2023 in Carolina. Totally atrocious. Not sure how much of that was him, or the Panthers stinking, or the Eagles’ offensive line being that good, but he finished with 432 yards on 129 carries, with one single touchdown and a 3.3 yards per carry rate. He’s got a 7.6 million cap hit going into this season and two more years after that. They can cut him next year for a minimal dead cap hit, but if they do it this year it looks like it’s a $7.4 million hit and only $200,000 in savings. Sanders had games last year where he rushed for 18, 10, 3, 2, 0, and -5 yards. He only had two games where he went above 50. Just brutal.
