Haason Reddick Not Partaking in Jets OTAs
Jets head coach Robert Saleh has had no contact with Haason Reddick, who is not at OTAs:
#Jets HC Robert Saleh didn’t seem thrilled with Haason Reddick not being around this offseason. The fact he’s had no contact with him is a little eyebrow raising pic.twitter.com/bW6qDwybY9

“No (it’s not a concern). Obviously as a coach, selfishly you want everybody here all the time, but it is voluntary and I’m thankful for the guys who are here and putting in their work. Those are the guys I’m going to focus on… Haason’s a pro, he’s been in this league a while, he’s produced at a very high level for a long time. He’s got his routine. If it makes people feel better, we know where he’s at and what he’s doing. We know he’s working his tail off..”
“We know where he’s at and what he’s doing.” Well that’s reassuring for Jets fans!
People seem to think the Reddick thing is contract related, but this is voluntary workouts we’re talking about here. If anything, you’d think showing up would be way to get off to a good start with your new team.
Whatever the case, Reddick’s wanted a new contract for at least a year now. Can’t imagine a trade has done anything to change that. He’ll make about $14.5 million this year, at age 30, which puts him 19th in pay on Over the Cap’s edge rusher chart. That’s for a guy who has had 11+ sacks in four straight seasons. Now he’s making less in AAV than Bryce Huff, the former Jet the Eagles replaced him with. It’s notable, however, that of the top 19 edge rushers in AAV, only six are 30 years or older. Reddick probably deserves the money, but teams will give $28 million per year to 26 year old Brian Burns, or 27 year old Maxx Crosby. They’re not giving $20 million AAV to someone on the wrong side of 30.
