PHLY Owner Named in Age Discrimination Suit
Back in March, we mentioned in a Media Nuggets column that PHLY owner All City Network was named in an age discrimination filing with the Commonwealth of PA. There’s now a civil action, filed in Pennsylvania’s Eastern District Court:
The plaintiff is 63 year old Steve Geltman, PHLY’s former Director of Sales, who, according to the filing, was hired in September of 2023 and terminated in December. The filing alleges that Geltman “performed very well and was not subjected to disciplinary actions regarding his performance or otherwise.” It notes that Geltman was able to “secure several meetings and presentations for Defendants with major advertising agencies and large local direct companies, as he had built a very large pipeline.”
A little further down, some specific examples are described:
The filing further alleges that Geltman was replaced by a member of his sales team who was 20 years younger.
It’s written in the document that the reasoning for his termination was because he was “not a good fit” and that leadership wanted to make cuts “to salaries and workforce.” Furthermore, it’s alleged that All City was “advertising for multiple ‘seller’ positions… as it is clear that Defendants still needed someone to perform his job duties, and that they were still hiring for positions he could have performed.”
According to Linkedin, Geltman was working for Beasley before joining PHLY. He’s now back with Beasley as a “Sr. Account Manager – Digital / Sports Specialist.”
A few months ago, All City CEO Brandon Spano told Crossing Broad that “we simply terminated an employee and it had nothing to do with age.” We reached out to Spano last week and will update if there’s further comment. The only documents in the court system right now are the complaint and the issued summons.
