Report: Lakers "Zeroing in" on JJ Redick as Next Head Coach
This is going to be amazing. The Lakers are all but guaranteed to make JJ Redick the next head coach according to Shams at The Athletic (with ads):
The Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in on JJ Redick as the front-runner to be the franchise’s next head coach, league and media industry sources told The Athletic.
No final decision has been made yet, and the Lakers still have steps remaining in their head-coaching search process, league sources said. But the indications are strong that Redick is their leading choice at this stage.
Talk about throwing someone into the deep end and seeing if they can swim. If this report comes true, LeBron’s podcast host is going to get the Lakers job. We’re probably a couple weeks away from Bronny pulling an Eli Manning and releasing a statement through Klutch that he won’t play for anyone but the Lakers. So don’t draft him. This is going to be an absolute circus. I do think JJ is a legitimate coaching candidate and can have success. It’s just all the other bullshit that comes with being the head coach of the Lakers that should worry fans. They’re going to lose four of five on an east coast swing and now the coach and his franchise player are going to discuss the turmoil publicly on their podcast? It’s going to be so awkward when LeBron’s camp leaks something to Brian Windhorst about coaching philosophy minutes before they press record. Even in 2024 this sounds unbelievable.
JJ Redick, the Podcaster?
JJ addressed the elephant in the room with a canned statement on Gojo and Golic Wednesday morning:
“My focus is on the NBA Finals. In terms of Shams, that will be addressed once the season is over. I’ll just say that.” @jj_redick addresses the elephant in the room — the rumors of the Lakers’ interest in him as their new Head Coach pic.twitter.com/6OwYnG5iHQ

The funniest part might be that ESPN fired Jeff Van Gundy under the guise that they were worried he would leave his analyst job to go coach again. Ironically, now his two replacements have left to go coach in the NBA.
Does JJ commute from San Diego or San Francisco every day you think?
