The Corrupt "Government" Institution Everyone from Philly Hates!
This week’s Men At Work (subscribe, like, share) is aimed at the soulless, bloodsucking “government entity” that Philadelphians have to continuously look over their shoulder for at all times. The PPA – Philadelphia Parking Authority – wakes up everyday with a money mindset. They have one goal and it’s how to screw over the hard working people of Philadelphia like you and I. We gave a voice to the silent majority so they could tell us about their awful experiences while also spreading the word about their corruption:
Did you know the PPA makes $264 million annually (in 2020) and is supposed to give a portion of that money to public schools and city infrastructure but rarely does? It’s insane, but they get away with it because they’re technically not controlled by the local government. Remarkable stuff.
We talk to a New Yorker whose last goodbye from the PPA was a ticket, a person who compares them to one of the worst terrorist organizations in the world, and a guy who keeps spare tires in his car just in case. Then we head down to the tow yard to see where your car goes when the PPA inevitably nails you. We were joined by Philly comedian Chris Aileo, who did a funny short film on the PPA. Watch it:
If you’re unfamiliar with my new pod, Men At Work, here’s the layman’s terms. We set up a table somewhere with mics and get random people to join and tell us what they do for a living. Then the conversation just goes from there. My co-host Matt Peoples and I thought this was a good idea for a podcast because society identifies so much with their job or what they want it to be. I’ve also found that there are a lot of interesting people in the Philly area and beyond with interesting jobs and interesting stories. In this episode we met The Blue collar babies, the middle class Mami’s, and the white collar criminals all gathered around to have a conversation. What other podcast is going to show you that many walks of life in under an hour? Check it out!
